Tequila sips:

A 217-acre site above the town of Teuchitlán called Guachimontones  was a ceremonial center, the heart of the Teuchitlán tradition. This complex society, responsible for the area's shaft tombs, reached its peak between 200 B.C. and A.D. 350, when more than 50,000 people may have lived within 15 miles of the Tequila volcano. At its height, the Teuchitlán tradition was the cultural center of West Mexico, with unique, complex architecture and a trade network that stretched from Guatemala to Arizona.

The 2008 Tequila Tour

In late April, 2008, a group of 28 forum members arrived in Guadalajara to begin our third group tour. We were in Mexico for seven days: starting in the highlands this year, we visited distilleries and plants in Tepotitlan, Capilla de Guadalupe, Jesus Maria, Arandas and Atotonilco. Then we headed for the lowlands region. We then stopped in Guadalajara for breakfast at the Chamber of Tequila, and continued to Arenal, Amatitan and eventually Tequila. Our bases (hotels) were in Arandas and Tequila.

Twelve distilleries in six days. Quite an adventure, but a lot of work. It's often hot and tiring but of course always rewarding. Once again we received tremendous hospitality from our hosts. I will be publishing more on the latest trip, including photographs, shortly. meanwhile, check the forum for members' contributions.

We owe some of our best experiences to the efforts of David Ruiz whose help in getting into some previously unvisited places was indispensible. David runs and if you want to enjoy one of the best trips to the region, with one of the most knowledgeable and friendly guides, contact David. I highly recommend his services.
