Brand Name: Mezcal Vida
Distillery: Del Maquey , Single Village Mezcal, S.A. de C.V., Teotitlan Del Valle S/N, Oaxaca
Distillations: 2
Type: blanco
Gusano: No
Proof: 84
Closure: plastic cork cap
Agave: 100%

Other: USDA Organic certification.

Visual: Brilliant, no sediment. Long, tight legs.
Nose: Light smoke, an almost caramel-maple note, linoleum and fresh horseradish. I kid you not.
Body/Taste: The horeseradish is a bit bigger on the palate, especially late. Smoke is reserved, and is paired with an earthy, clay-like note. Some good heat, but not fiery.
Aftertaste/Finish: Heat, with a bit of astringency, and a round sweetness. A hint of smoke. The astringency is a bit odd, but otherwise a nice denoument.
Overall Impression: I have to say I was expecting more from this Del Maguey product. The horseradish notes were unusual but not necessarily unpleasant. Never having tasted the rest of DM's lineup though, perhaps I was setting my sights too high. This is a good mezcal for $39.99, but for that money, I think I would have been more satisfied with a bottle of El Tesoro blanco. Purchased at House of Glunz in Chicago.

Rating: Good
