Casa Noble Anejos

An interesting thing happened to me... Back in April when I started my tequila journey, I purchased a bottle of Casa Noble 5 YR. I tried it a few times but couldn't see what all the fuss was about so I used it for company. It was good but not something to rave about. Last week, while drinking with friends, I tried it again not wanting to drink one of my "better" tequilas. I was shocked. This stuff was good. No not good.. but fantastic! I loved it! I have no idea what happened between my earlier experience and now, but CN 5YR is now one of my favorites. I do have a question however. I see great reviews for both the bottle with silver writing as well as the one with gold. Is there a concensus as to which one is better? Do they taste similar? Is the difference in price worth it. I'd love to hear your guys opinions as I plan on buying another bottle soon --to replace the one I foolishly gave away. Thanx

Ciao

Tequilas that have blown my mind

It is a fact that the very first tequila that "blew" my mind was a teardrop denton chinaco repo... courtesy of PV78; that same evening I was fortunate enough to taste Tap-XA and Tap fresh from the still [courtesy of Ray], both more than made my night and finished off what little gray matter I still had.

Through the past year I have had some rarer than rare tequilas. Cigar blend... oh, manifique!!! T1-11yr... this one not only blew my mind away, but my taste buds... 30 minutes later and while having a beer, the finish of the t1 was still there, right underneath the effervescence from the beer. However...

...today- I cracked open a 1017-repo ETWL and man, Carlos really knows how to make a darn GREAT tequila... my taste buds seem to always go back to his products... with one exception, paradiso-letterless; but I digress.

If I had only one bottle to drink from what would it be? The Tap/ET- Cigar Blend and the T1-11Y are too rare... and since I am a realist I would have to go with an ET-Anejo [current release]... simple yet attainable just about anywhere.
It was a pretty mundane sipping experience while visiting the Seattle crew of Don Pablo and Jim.. until, out of no where, Sr. Pablo decided mediocricy would non longer be had! He grabbed a cold Fresca from the fridge, and alas -- the night was salvaged. Jim and I sat there in awe.

Today I picked up a large brandy style snifter at the DAV for couple of bucks. Nice hand blown china type of glass that I washed and have been sipping from tonight based on the TasteTequila's video on glass selection. I AM BLOWN AWAY on how this glass is effecting my tequila experience and enjoyment! I a getting miles more nose and to get the increased nose at the same time as the taste is like a totally different sipping experience for me! All I can say is give it a try. I'm seriously considering never useing anything but again. A world of difference. Hard to believe. Learned more to like about my old favorites and ones that I thought were mediocre. The glass is brandy style 5 inches at the largest part of the bowl and 5 inches tall + the short stim and base = 61/4" total height. The mouth is approx 3 to 3 1/4 inches wide. Please do give one a try.

Mexico Only Tequilas

I'm new to the tequila world, getting bit by the "T" bug this past April. I'm in need of advice. My wife and I are going to the Tijuana Tequila Expo in October and would love to pick up some "Mexico Only" tequilas but have no idea what to look for. Carlos from Ramirez Liquors suggested I look into El Duende. I would appreciate some other suggestions. We are partial to Anejo/Extra Anejos. Thanx in advance.

This forum was a godsend when I first stumbled upon it... living in southern California, Tequila selections were abundant; life was grand. Then I headed out to the Midwest- land of "good luck finding any good tequilas." Well my stint in various Midwestern states is over and it's off to the pacific north west!

Anyone from the PDX area got any recommendations?!
